Noise pollution can cause high blood pressure, strokes, circulatory problems, and distracted thinking. Plus, it makes us irritable and grouchy. More and more research shows that the harm done to our health is getting stronger and stronger. Out of almost hundreds of millions of households are having problems with the noise on the street or with heavy traffic. There has been a study between the connection in environmental noise and health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbance, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). There are even findings of heart attacks due to traffic noise. Even hospitals, the places where we should be restored to good health, have gotten noisier and louder. The cell phone is one of the main reasons for the increase in public noise. We give off noise pollution into our phones which only creates more noise. We may be getting deaf due to our personal involvements. There are people who are irritated with cell-phone chatter in public, but only a few of them are aware of their own habits annoying others. All these rackets are terrible news for our brain and nervous system which are not accustomed to noise, but the good news is we can battle the attack of noise without the need to flee. Latest studies show that brief moments of silence can assist us in putting ourselves back together again. It is advisable to focus on meditation and breathing. Short periods of meditation can help lower blood pressure and even improve cognitive performance. In meditation, you begin with calmness and silence. Then, within that quiet moment, you shift attention to a deeper part of yourself. Sit in a comfortable spot, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Just relax your body, working up to the top of your head with every inhale, then traveling back down again with every exhale in one constant motion, like a rising and falling wave. With every wave, feel your body letting go of tension. The most common misconception about meditation is that when we do it, we have to stop all thoughts, which is an impossible plan. As much as possible just avoid thinking about the disturbances in our lives. Try to let go of your important things to do. If you fall asleep, it’s okay. There’s no wrong way to meditate.
